ULI Michigan Launches Statewide Program to Empower Women in Real Estate

URBAN LAND INSTITUTE OF MICHIGAN LAUNCHES STATEWIDE PROGRAM TO EMPOWER WOMEN IN REAL ESTATE

BUILD UP Breakfast Club program unites small groups of women across the state to build careers, relationships and strong networks

DETROIT, MICH.-Nov. 2, 2018 — The Urban Land Institute (ULI) of Michigan, a chapter of the preeminent, real estate organization dedicated to responsible land use and creating thriving, sustainable communities, is launching an innovative new program designed to empower and inspire women in real estate across the region called the BUILD UP Breakfast Clubs.

BUILD UP Breakfast Clubs bring together small groups of women and give them an opportunity to build lasting relationships, engage meaningfully with women working in their field, and build strong networks within their region. Each regional breakfast club will be captained by a local WLI champion who will arrange the location and time for their breakfast club to meet.

“Real estate development is still a heavily male-dominated field and it is important to give women a voice and opportunity to advance in leadership positions in the industry,” said Shannon Morgan, co-chair of the ULI’s Women’s Leadership Initiative advisory services panel. “We were inspired to create the BUILD UP Breakfast Clubs by the many talented professional women in ULI who can share their experiences, skillset and vision with others. The clubs are a way to build meaningful relationships with other women in real estate, and to learn and discuss trends and topics in the industry.”

The keynote speaker for the first breakfast is Denise Hamilton, founder and CEO of WatchHerWork.com, a digital learning platform for professional women.Denise is a highly requested speaker and trainer as well as media personality whose platform has reached and served thousands of women all over the world. At WatchHerWork, Hamilton curates the professional experiences of hundreds of women to build an extensive video library providing accessible female-driven career advice.

Initially, the program will launch with 7-10 clubs throughout the state of Michigan, scheduled to meet individually 4-6 times per year. In advance of each meet-up, ULI Michigan will provide virtual content to be viewed and discussed, and annually provide the opportunity for a live stream, interactive keynote event. Content will vary from speakers to recorded lectures and will focus on issues that are important to women in real estate and will be guided by WLI members.
