Beginning in 2013, ULI Michigan and the UM/ULI Real Estate Forum have collaborated to produce the Michigan Emerging Trends report, a localized version of the national Emerging Trends report issued annually by the Urban Land Institute.
The objective of this report is to supplement the annual National ULI Emerging Trends Report by focusing on local real estate markets in Michigan. The National ULI Emerging Trends Report is a tremendous resource and historical perspective on national economic and real estate trends, and is presented each year at the Forum. However, it does not focus on smaller and local markets, markets which comprise most of the real estate activity in Michigan. More importantly, it appears to have undervalued the Michigan market in recent years.
An online survey will be used to obtain general trend information. This survey is available to anyone interesting in participating, and categorizes participants by industry sector, and staff position in company. ULI Michigan will recommend and invite 15-20 distinguished real estate professionals to participate in interviews, which will be conducting concurrently with the survey. These professionals will represent each of the major real estate markets in the state, as well as housing, retail, office and industrial products. The University of Michigan Real Estate Club will recommend and invite 8-10 students to conduct the interviews. Interviews will be scheduled by the students for a 30 minute duration, and will be conducted by phone.
The Forum will work with partners, such as the MEDC and MSHDA, to identify additional state-wide data that should be used in the report. The report will be compiled and authored by a panel consisting of ULI Michigan members and Forum committee members, and will be presented during the 28th Annual UM/ULI Real Estate Forum.
