    Speakers

    Amy Hovey

    Michigan Department of Labor and Opportunity

    Housing Specialist, Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Amy Hovey is most recently the special projects coordinator at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, where she worked with the community and economic development grant-making in Flint. She also leads the real estate development of two schools and a hotel in this position. Before this position, Hovey was the district chief of staff for Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI Fifth District), where she administered the operations of the Washington, D.C. and district offices and directly managed the programs of the programs district office. She was the co-founder, chief operating officer, and senior vice president of capacity building for Community Progress, a nonprofit created to assist communities in dealing with vacant, abandoned, and blighted properties. Before helping launch the organization, she founded the Protogenia Group LLC in 2002, after working with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) for six years. She also provided support in creating the Genesee County Land Bank Authority. Hovey holds a bachelor’s of arts degree from Alma College and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Michigan-Flint.

    Susan Corbin

    Director, State of Michigan

    Susan Corbin has been the Senior Chief Deputy of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity since the department's creation in August 2019 and is currently serving as Acting Director. As Senior Chief Deputy, Susan led operations for all of LEO, with direct-line responsibility for the Labor agencies and Unemployment Insurance Offices. In the past, Susan has served as a Senior Advisor in the Office of Governor Whitmer, Director of Customer Assistance in the Michigan Public Service Commission, Deputy Director and Chief of Staff for the Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth where she had oversight responsibility for the Unemployment Insurance Agency, the Worker's Compensation Agency, and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. She has also served as Director of Appointments for Governor Granholm. Ms. Corbin began her professional career working for the Michigan Departments of Commerce, Labor and Transportation assisting with their cultural, educational and trade relations with the People's Republic of China. She has a degree in International Relations from James Madison College at Michigan State University.

    Mikayla Hoskins

    Associate, Buro Happold

    Mikayla Hoskins is an Associate in the Cities Team at Buro Happold. In her role, Mikayla leads and contributes to consulting projects focused on energy and sustainability in the built environment and beyond. Mikayla has experience in building system energy efficiency having spent years conducting energy audits and retro-commissioning work for residential and commercial clients in New York City. To each of her projects, Mikayla applies her passion for efficiency and sustainability whether that be in the form of physical systems or in processes and operations. Mikayla is a Professional Engineer in the State of New York and earned her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering and Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Columbia University. Mikayla also commits some of her time as an expert energy critic for an architecture class focusing on the urban scale at Columbia University.

    Yasmin Rehmanjee

    Partner, BuroHappold

    Yasmin Rehmanjee is a partner who has two decades of experience leading some of the most complex and iconic structural engineering designs in the country and around the world. She is adept at leading large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with diverse teams across offices while maintaining project schedules and budgets as well as the vision of her clients’ projects. With a structural engineering background, Yasmin led the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta – which includes the world’s first ocular-shaped operable roof – and is currently leading the multidisciplinary engineering design on Hudson’s Site in Detroit, a 1.4 million square foot mixed-use development. Her portfolio spans across sectors including sports and entertainment, commercial development, higher education and healthcare. Yasmin serves as the New York Co-Office Director where she is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the New York team. Also a passionate advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion, Yasmin leads the Equity Committee of Buro Happold’s North America Board – using her influence to ensure the firm continuously works to better reflect the varied cultures, communities and clients we serve. She is a mentor and teacher to many of Buro Happold’s young engineers, and has also guest lectured and taught at several universities including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Yale University School of Architecture and Syracuse University School of Architecture.
