Leadership Insights: Karla Henderson, Group Executive of Planning & Facilities for the City of Detroit

Karla Henderson was appointed by Mayor Dave Bing as the Group Executive of Planning and Facilities on August 2, 2011. In this role, Henderson oversees the Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department, the Building Authority, the Planning and Development Department, the Land Use plan, the Detroit Works Program, and the Mayor’s Demolition Program. Henderson joined the City of Detroit in 2009 when the Mayor appointed her as the Director of the Buildings, Safety and Engineering Department. Benjamin Kennedy joined The Kresge Foundation – a Michigan-based organization which supports efforts to expand opportunity for low-income communities and strengthen America’s cities – in 2009, and currently serves as a Senior Program Officer for Community Development and Kresge’s Detroit Program.
