District Council Rebranding & West Michigan Expansion

As the only Urban Land Institute District Council in the state, we have always been a Michigan-focused organization. However, with the head office located in the Detroit area, the District Council had historically focused the majority of programming in Southeast Michigan. Even with the outreach of programming to Grand Rapids, Lansing and Flint under the name of ULI Detroit, a sense of separation from the other regions within the state remained.

In September 2011, the Detroit District Council of the Urban Land Institute, ULI Detroit, proudly announced that the District Council would be expanding its services and growing its membership under a new name; Urban Land Institute (ULI) Michigan.

The rebranding of our District Council and expansion of our programs and events demonstrates the our commitment to the Mission of the Urban Land Institute by making ULI resources and services available to areas outside of Southeast Michigan. In order to facilitate the introduction of ULI programming and events to a wider audience, the West Michigan Programs Committee was formed.

West Michigan Programs Committee

The West Michigan Programs Committee is committed to promoting ULI’s best practices and principles throughout the western region of Michigan. The Committee strives to deliver programs that feature many of the exciting developments, approaches and concepts that are successfully revitalizing and transforming urban areas throughout West Michigan.

In 2012, ULI Michigan held four events outside of the Southeast Michigan region, including the 26th Annual UM/ULI Real Estate Forum, which took place in Grand Rapids, and Industry Insights: The Catalyst of Urban Growth & Economic Development, which took place in Kalamazoo and featured keynote speakers Robert Taubman, President, Chairman, and CEO of Taubman Centers, Inc., and William Parfet, Chairman and CEO of MPI Research and Non-Executive Chairman of Kalamazoo-based medical supply manufacturer Styker.

The West Michigan Programs Committee is proud to continue to bring quality ULI Michigan programs to West Michigan in 2015 and beyond.
